Here's to a hilariously awesome 2025, bursting with creativity and weaving adventures that'll leave you in stitches—literally and figuratively!
2024 at Jasmine Cottage was a bit like a soap opera with a medical twist. It kicked off with my second kidney transplant in February. Spoiler alert: it didn't win any awards, but hey, I’m off the dialysis rollercoaster!
The health saga continued with some thrilling colonic investigations and procedures. Just when you thought it couldn't get more dramatic, I had my first cataract surgery right before Christmas—now I can see the chaos clearly!
All these health shenanigans are brought to you by my renal failure, with a special guest appearance by 20 years of steroid treatment. It's the plot twist nobody asked for!
Our dear little dog, Millie, has reached 14 years old, bless her, and she now needs to take medication for her heart. She’s becoming a bit forgetful, and with her hearing and sight also fading, she's truly showing her age. However, she still adores her food and her walks!
During the Christmas period, I was unable to bend down, lift, or cook because of my cataract surgery. Instead, I purchased a Stephen West shawl pattern and a few skeins of wool, and I focused on knitting rather than my usual weaving. It has been an enjoyable distraction.
I've also just figured out how to divide my 30/2 undyed silk skeins from 200g into 50g skeins, so I can dye them in various colors for my upcoming project—a 12 shaft echo-weave scarf. I've already finished the draft using WeaveIt software.
On Christmas Eve, I got a delivery from Louet of their new Jenn-E Electric Spinner! I had ordered it back in April, so it felt a bit like Santa showed up - in a UPS truck :-) It was the kind of moment that made me wonder if I should leave out cookies and milk for the delivery driver instead of Santa!
First, I checked the label to make sure it wasn't a lump of coal. You never know with these things!
Then I did a little dance because, let’s face it, I had waited so long I could have knitted a sweater in the meantime.
Finally, I opened the box and it was like unwrapping the best Christmas gift ever... if Santa had a thing for spinning yarn instead of toys!
Who knew that my holiday spirit would be powered by electricity and a dash of wool? Next year, I might just ask Santa for a lifetime supply of fibre instead of a new bike!
Think that's it for now! Take care - Love Jill x
